Poetry

A Poem by Shawn Pfister

Poetry is best written by children

Who love for the first time,

Whose heart is shattered for the first time,

Totally,

Like never again.

Poetry is best left to the young,

Whose every experience is new,

Whose emotions are pure,

And raw,

And fierce.

I like the very fitting child-like simplicity of your piece. Although, if I'm being picky, I don't understand why you have a comma after "raw" and not after "pure". Just a thought. Do you even need one?

Shawn,

I enjoyed your poem. With simplicity and candor you offer an insightful perspective. Your (note my proper use of your here) :) thoughts aren't riddled with intricacies, which I like. The voice is clear and strong.

It's interesting... If had been me, I would have told the story from the complete opposite stand point, from one who has lived a long, full life. Instead of loving for the first time, I would have boasted about loving for the last time. Instead of every experience being new, every moment would be worn and traveled -- like an old shoe. The young love fiercely, but the old...they love unconditionally.
