simple pleasures

A Poem by SheralVeronEve

Cigarettes and café breaks

Coffee beans and chocolate cakes

Jazz and blues, hums and tunes

Roses and exotic perfumes

Rooms with views

Mighty heights

Coolest breeze

Warmest night

Shady lamps

Candles lit

Conversation and a glass of wine

Simple pleasures of a mundane life

These are the things that get me by

Simple things, indeed. Mere details, trifles even. Michaelangelo once remarked, while devoting his time to sculpting out individual lines on one of his works, "Trifles make perfection, yet perfection is no trifle." These little details are what give us joy. Just as the "devil can be in the details" so can that true, objective Beauty the Grecian and Oriental philosophers of old wrote of.

Greater satisfaction is a fickle and fleeting thing. "Stop and smell the roses," so they say. And yet, how many of us really do when we're having an off day?

A wonderful poem, admirable for precisely what it's about: its simplicity.
