TALES OF THE MODERN DAY

FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE

(This is a lyrical interpretation of the misdeeds by our illustrious president, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove)

PART 1

Excerpts from Metallica’s" Enter Sandman":

"Say your prayers, little one

Don’t forget , my son

To include everyone"...

(interpretation: suggesting we all must redeem ourselves, because they are about to unleash "THE SANDMAN"-Osama Bin Laden on the U.S., whether you believe it or not...)

"Tuck you in, warm within

Keep you free from sin

Till the SANDMAN he comes"...

(interpretation- more forth coming with their warning , that the SANDMAN ‘s coming is imminent...)

"Sleep with one eye open

Gripping your pillow tight"...

(interpretation- the beginning of the fear mongering...)

"Exit; light

Enter-night

take my hand

We’re off to never-never land"...

(interpretation- suggesting that we ‘join" old Georgie and the gang, leading us into their fairytale of oil buddies running the world, and the rest of the populous, who don’t adhere to the warnings, a one way trip to Hell and despair...)

"Something’s wrong, shut the light

Heavy thoughts tonight

And they aren’t of Snow White"...

(interpretation- Oh, just their thoughts the night of Sept 10th, 2001, and what they were about to allow to happen...)

"Now I lay me down to sleep

Pray the Lord my soul to keep

If I die before I wake

Pray the Lord my soul to take..."

(Interpretation- the prayer of the Four Horsemen before retiring on the night of Sept 10th, 2001...)

"Hush little baby, don’t say a word

And never mind that noise you heard

It’s just the beasts under your bed

In your closet, in your head"...

(interpretation- demonstrates how are government treats it’s people like we are little children, who don’t know any better and not to question their judgement and decisions...)

THIS IS..."SAD, BUT TRUE"...

PART 2

Cheney and Rove’s dedication of truth to G W Bush

Excerpts from Metallica’s "Sad, But True"

"Hey

I’m your life

I’m the one who took you there

hey

I’m your life

I’m the one who cares..."

(Interpretation- Rove help get Georgie in office, he and Cheney are the one’s who care...)

"They

They betray

I’m your only true friend now

They

They’ll betray

I’m forever there..."

(Interpretation- pledging their dedication to old George...)

I’m your dream, make you real

I’m your eyes when you must steal

I’m your pain when you can’t feel

Sad, but true

I’m your dream, mind astray

I’m your eyes while you’re away

I’m your pain while you repay

You know it’s sad, but true..."

(Interpretation- revealing who’s really in charge of the country...)

"You

You’re my mask

You’re my cover, my shelter

You

you’re my mask

you’re the one who’s blamed

Do

Do my work

Do my dirty work, SCAPEGOAT

Do

DO MY DEEDS

FOR YOU’RE THE ONE WHO’S SHAMED..."

(Interpretation- do I really need to say much here?)

"Hate

I’m your hate

I’m your hate when you want love

Pay

Pay the price

Pay, for nothing’s fair

Hey

I’m your life

I’m the one who took you there

Hey

I’m your life

And I no longer care..."

(Interpretation- Rove distancing himself from the Bush gang...)

"I’m your truth, telling lies

I’m your reason, alibis

I’m inside, open your eyes

I’m you

Sad, but true..."

(Interpretation- Cheney proving once and for all that he is The Puppetmaster"...)

AMAZING HOW THEY ARE..."GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER"

PART 3

Excerpts from Papa Roach’s, "Getting Away with Murder"

"Somewhere beyond happiness and sadness

I need to calculate

what creates my own madness

and I’m addicted to your punishment

and you’re the master

and I am waiting for disaster..."

(Interpretation- Bush having a thought, while off his meds and separated from Cheney and Rove...)

"I feel irrational

So confrontational

To tell you the truth, I am

getting away with murder

IT ISN’T POSSIBLE

TO EVER TELL THE TRUTH

BUT THE REALITY IS, I’M GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER..."

(Interpretation- the Horsemen’s thoughts about starting the war in Iraq...)

"I drink my drink and I don’t even want to

I think my thoughts when I don’t even need to

I NEVER LOOK BACK ‘CAUSE I DON’T EVEN WANT TO

AND I DON’T NEED TO

because...I’m getting away with murder..."

(Interpretation-oh boy...ah hm...another brilliant brain dropping form Georgie and the gang...)

Sorry to take a while. I like the powerful commingling of the lyrics and current events. Tis a meeting of art and reality. The lyrics contain ominous messages, but events, as ever, seem to outdo imagination's works. But is that so, as it takes extraordinary imagination to dream up some of the events that have taken place in the last decade. But then perpaps imagination is but a branch of reality.

this reminds me of Zabriskie Point, and how the modern day rock movement can either directly or indirectly feel the influnce of the war culture that permeates our nation.

good. everyone isn't blind. i hope this gets widely read. george is the real terrorist. alkaida isn't even real. it's all scare tactics to scare us into giving up all our civil liberties. big brother is doing a LOT more than watching. he's been plotting our demise for years. either candidate will continue the legacy, they are all on the same team. Ron Paul is the only hope we have, but he just dropped out of the race, but not the fight. he's starting a revolution, and i believe he's right.
for the first time ever i'm concerned about the state of the planet and our country specifically.
thanks for helping to raise awareness and giving me a different perspective on the songs.

Even though I'm a Canadian living in England, I can see the poignancy of your satirical interpretation. It is said, 'satire' is not primarily humour in itself; but it can be a great attack on something the writer strongly disapproves of!

A wonderful weapon of wit and social composition. Excellent!

I enjoyed your interpretaions of these songs as they certainly fit our government to a tee... funny I saw this I just recently wrote a poem called "Evolution Of The Four Horseman" relating the bible story to our government. Anyways this was very insightful and well thought out. thank God his reign his almost over.

Very cool. I love lyrical interpretations. I once did a set of them for "Frankenstein". I like how you use lyrics people know to help make us aware of the f*****g we're receiving from our "leaders". The Papa Roach one, I think was more of a sketch if anything, but maybe that just stems from my deep hatred of Papa Roach. The metallica one's were quite genius. I like how more politically based poems are coming out.
