The Artist

The Artist

A Poem by shallimarRose

Indeed he is an artist
though he has no paints or brush
he has never sketched a sunset
nor drawn the oceans rush
he's never carved a masterpiece
from clay, nor rock, nor ice
and yet his artwork can be seen
his work is quite precise
he does not play an instrument
he cannot sing a note
No, its not the art of acting
'tis the words the poet wrote....

There is a magnificent cadence and rhyme to this. It is not callow, it reads with the full force of a seasoned and exceedingly talented muse. The keystone to this maturity and talent level is in the brevity. Less is always more. On the surface 'simple' takes a special muse, anyone can go on and on with purple prose. Frost and Giovanni and Dickinson all knew this, all worked like this, as do you. Wonderful work....I would not change a syllable.

Thanks Rita.. Happy to see you here this morning.. huggs!
I paint every morning, saving my afternoons for reading and writing poetry, so I appreciate the comparison. Splendid writing. I especially like the line "Nor drawn the oceans rush." And the picture you chose is perfect. Richard

Thank you so much Julia.. xo
I truly liked the bounce here. Good rhyme and meter. And I liked the very specific details you put in. There are lots of poems about poets that can fall flat but this one is both well constructed and well thought out. Thank you for it,
