Mermaid Love ♥♥♡

Mermaid Love ♥♥♡

A Poem by Shalini Dinesh (Poet's World)

I relished being a fish,
swimming deep into seas,
crossing the turquoise borders
immersing into the emerald surface,
touching the spongy seagrass,
tickling the coral reefs.

I swirled up and high
dancing in glory
felt like touching the amethyst sky,
splashing the waters around,
causing ripples and waves,
there I saw you shimmering in moonlight.

My whole world missed a beat,
looking into your sea blue eyes,

fell into the oceans of love,
the touch of your hands,
gentle caress on my bosom,
bloomed within me a thousand flowers.

As your fingers slid down,
down my satin fresh skin,
I wished to no longer stay a mermaid,
I followed you to the shore,
fins fluttering in merriment,
you winked and I swam faster.

My souls touched the ecstasy,
heart beating in the rhythm of love,
you gestured me to leave,
but how could I???
I waited there till you left,
twitched, twirled, whirled, breathless …

Caught in the net you’d earlier spread,
washing to the shore,
heart beating fast,

faster, aching for one first last kiss,
capturing your image in my heart,
eyes turning cold, dropping down in thought of you…

yeah, really beautiful imagery here, i think you've captured the mystique and fantasy of such a creature. i like how dark your poem is, more like the original grimm's fairy tale, and not the disney version... the lines 'swimming deep into seas/crossing turquoise borders/immersing into the emerald surface' are really striking, good use of color... :)

Lovely imagery and cadence to this work. Thank you so much for sharing it. This reminds me much of my friend's artwork - she does the most amazing mermaids and is a wonderful writer as well. Delightful read!

Aww.. this was so touching. I actually felt like the mermaid.. !! Poor thing! She got betrayed in the end.. It's really nice. The imagery is great!

There's so much to think about in your poem; you create a really romantic sequence of sad yet beautiful happenings, such yearning .. it's like a dream come to life.

Third stanza, would a mermaid stand .. maybe lie? Whilst i love illustrations, I think I'd have omitted the second one.. it's distracting, breaks the flow of your beautiful poem ..

This is more than good, idleness obviously serves you very well!
