"Me Too."

"Me Too."

A Poem by S. Lynn

It started off as sweet honeyed words
that you poured into my ears
as you held my hand to calm my fears.

You said you liked how blue my eyes were
and how my sparkly lip-gloss made my lips look like candy.

You saw that I was drowning and you offered to save me.

Next came a touch here and there
and when I told you “no!” you laughed
and told me that’s simply how “these things go.”

So I let you kiss and I let you touch and
I tried not to think about it too much.

I pushed it away to the back of my mind
never knowing until too late of the crime
you committed against my person and dignity
and I remember how s****y you made me feel
by dismissing my worries like they weren’t a big deal
and I’m here to tell you now that you no longer have a hold
on my soul because at last I understand how what you told me
is wrong and I’m finally strong enough to take what happened
to make me wiser than I had been but I suppose I’ll always be
a little leery of men because of you
and the next time someone steps up to the plate,
I’ll stand with them and say, “me too.”
