It Was My Choice

I'm sorry that I had to tell you this way,

I'm leaving home, probably will come back when

Its my time to go into the world, don't worry.

I know me joining the military, must have been a big shock.

But you should be proud, please don't put me down.

I'm doing this for myself, I want to make a difference. 

I wanna protect the things dear to me. Please understand.

Its not like I have chosen suicide. Don't walk away.

Please don't cry. I promise when I return.

I will be a better person. I need you to be strong. 

The chances of deployment are slim, I'll always be near.

It hurts now but when I come back home, 

I'll have done something, that will make you proud of me.

I actually go to basic hopefully next summer. :) I'm excited.
