I TRIED

I TRIED

A Poem by Allen Christopher Harding

It is not fair how you treated me,

I tried everything to keep you happy.

I tried to build your self-esteem,

by doing so in return you acted mean.

I tried to make you comfortable about your dimensions,

but all my efforts were paid no attention.

I tried to let you know how much I loved you,

but you were busied by saying words that were untrue.

I tried to love you with all my heart,

but you let the relationship fall apart.

I tried to let you be,

but you put on a mask for me.

I tried everything not to make you frown,

but in return you did not want me around.

I thought I did not deserve you,

but the more I think I know it is not true.

Because you made yourself unhappy by wearing a mask for me to see,

I realize that it was you that did not deserve me.

This is very powerful. I can sense the hurt in you and in her. She did not deserve you.
