HESITANCE

HESITANCE

A Poem by Allen Christopher Harding

“I would have said something sooner but I was afraid that you would say no.”

This was a comment uttered by a young lady I adored in my younger day.

While I was not too direct about my feelings I tried to let her know I cared another way.

Each and every day we grew closer and closer as days and weeks passed.

I felt that I should tell her how I felt because I at least wanted our friendship to last.

                                 I HESITATED.

My departure was nearing and I wished her a fond farewell.

But as to my feelings for her, though I did not tell.

I will always remember what she said as I begun to go.

“I would have said something sooner but I was afraid that you would say no.”

                                 SHE HESITATED.

                                 WE  HESITATED.
