HE AND SHE

HE AND SHE

A Poem by Allen Christopher Harding

At first they were just friends both wanting more,

little did they know what the future had in store.

They came together in the most peculiar way,

it was a while ago, a month before May.

The two talked about past loves into the night,

later their feelings came clear into sight.

They came together hoping for more,

little did they know what the future had in store.

One of the two had to go away,

even though he wanted to stay.

While he was away their love grew stronger more and more,

little did they what the future had in store.

While he was gone a problem came to pass,

both inquired if their relationship would last.

Earlier, this I did not mention,

the two lovers were a different race and it caused tension.

This was an immense problem they got themselves into,

both knowing not what to do.

With reckless love and reckless hate,

only by sneaking around the two could date.

One day she asked him, “Why are you with me after all we have been through?”

He looked at her and replied, “Because I love you.”

I like this, the seperation brought on by others opinions, yet them stayng together through it anyway. The characters seem real, especially in the last two lines - the questioning and the dedication shows through.
Structure-wise, the lines flow well into each other, and the ryhmes are simple but effective.
Very nice :)
