The Frozen Soul's Prayer

The Frozen Soul's Prayer

A Poem by Thanatos Darkraven

Now I lay me down to sleep

An icy grave my soul will keep

And if I die before I wake

I pray this ice the pain will take

Shards of ice encase my heart

Since we've grown so far apart

An frozen hole is all that's there

From a loss of love and dark despair

I don't know when my heart will melt

And feel again the love I once felt

But in this darkness will I wait

Until the cold tides of death abate

And so this ice my soul will keep

Until I rise from this dark sleep

But if I die before I wake

I pray this ice the pain will take.

My favorite part about this, for me, was the way it offers a glimpse on a level of what a prayer means to a person who appears to feel a prayer has lost meaning through overuse. A well penned read.
