The Day Hope Died

The Day Hope Died

A Poem by William
"

"half the time the world is ending, truth is i am done pretending. too much time, too long defending--you and i are done pretending." (a backwards poem.)

"

.05
this is your crime,
this is your penance:
you will be cast out for destroying something so precious.
you knew the consequences
long before the sin, therefore
long will be the hopeless decades
of your suffering,
of your punishment.

.04
when they all turned against her,
when you gave her that poison kiss,
her innocence was lost, her delicate wings broken.
her world was shattered, and she was left
between her fairy world and this world.
between home and nowhere,
neither accepting her,
neither willing to let her go.

driven out,
driven mad,
until she had no other choice.
until she silently died out,
for hope of a better life,
for no other reason than to escape.

.03
you used her innocence against her,
you knew she couldn’t see you clearly.
she only saw what she wanted,
she was blinded and misguided
by the loneliness of being different.
by the time she realized, it was too late.

.02
the sky and angels cried
the day her lovely eyes met yours.
others know of the Serpent’s Son,
others call you the Devil’s Child, but
so quietly, she never could hear.
so she never knew of your intentions.

you knew exactly how
you ensnared her,
in the forest of your snake-green eyes.
in that single millisecond,
she was lost, she lost the battle, and
she took the bite of the forbidden apple.

.01
she wasn’t of this world, she was more.
she was made of dreams and air
and imagination, lace and innocence
and light, and fields and fields
of wildflowers and
of daisies.

she was fantasy,
she was ecstasy.
an ethereal being,
an angel, a fairy-girl.
each day of spring and summer, she’d dance to
each of the trees and sing the leaves into being.

she was a child in an unforgiving world
she was innocence in white lace,
it was necessity that gave birth to her
it was human nature that needed her.

[and though it was evil that hurt her,
it was love that killed her.]

[but she found hope in that bittersweet heartbreak,
and she was born-again, free of this rotted world.
for that, i have to thank you. for even with
        your malicious, venomous intentions
                                         it was you
                              who saved her.]

Author's Note

William
Personification of Hope and Hate. It actually won a contest on dA. It's backwards--05 is the ending and 01 is the beginning. [Sort of.] The brackets are just... floating. if that makes sense.

Beautiful piece... this was one of the titles that I simply could not take out of the Finalists, when I had to pull someone else in to help me. :)

Beautiful imagery and personification. The meaning behind it was subtle, while remaining apparent... great exploration and different style. I have nothing that I would even consider changing about this. Gorgeous write.

Nicely done William, I like this contrast between Hope and Hate. But in the end you give a hope to life itself.
