You Know How I Do

You Know How I Do

A Poem by William
"

for a contest.

"

I say I'm better off without you,
I say I don't need you,
but baby, I'm begging you to call my bluff.
Lie to me, lie to you.

(You know how I do.)
This is just infinity,
this is just affinity,
so spin your silver webs
and draw me closer--
I know you want to.
We'll fall between the cracks
of your oh-so brittle skin
and the lies you used to hide in.

We don't need this.
We don't need trust, and we don't need a reason.
Because honestly, who needs honesty
when you're dragging your nails down my back?
Oh honey, I love you.

(You know how I do.)
This is my reality.
We can exist in these few moments
between the breath and the kiss,
the touch and the taste.

I say I love you,
I say we need this.
I say it's never enough.
We don't need right,
we need right now.
We aren't playing with fire;
we'll be fine.
I just need you tonight.

Flashback to the score,
I'm a cheater, I'm a liar.

(You know how I do.)
You've been running for miles,
you're running with a smile,
and baby, you're leaving me alone here.
It's proof of my coming of age.
This is the end of all I know.
All it takes is a try--
So give it your best shot, and try.
All it takes is a tip of the glass,
and consequence spills all over the floor.

Now you're crying over spent life,
moving slowly through the memories
and baby, you've never looked better.
This is the sound of your breaking.
You're breaking glass, so tread lightly.
I like my sweet
with just enough bitter
to remind me that it can never last.
(You know this can't last.)

I say I love you,
I say we need this.
I say it's never enough.
We don't need right,
we need right now.
We aren't playing with fire;
we'll be fine.
I just need you tonight.

You're just last year's lusts.
Teenage fantasies are
burning fires,
burning beneath your skin.
I swear I don't miss you much--
I swear it's just the same old bluff.
Oh honey, you're still the same old blood rush.
I swear I still feel the heat from your touch.

It's so good to see you're alive.
[It's so good to see you're a lie.]
I still move to your rhythm,
but we've lost our rhyme and reason.
It's backwards, we make no sense.
Why can't we just pretend?
[I know that this is what we do.]

I say I love you,
I say we need this.
I say it's never enough.
We don't need right,
we need right now.
We aren't playing with fire;
we'll be fine.
I just need you tonight.

You say we're made to fit,
you say that this is what it feels like
to find an end of all these beginnings.
You say the fire we feed,
it's never enough.
You say you need me,
you say you love me.
But baby,
it's time I called your bluff.

Those who know me know I never do things like this, but it was too tempting. ^^;
This was for a rather interesting little contest: http://www.writerscafe.org/contests/Song-Challenge-%28Read-Description%29/14783/

The band title I got was: Joan Perry
And the album: ...It Holds the Universe Together
I created the album art from a photo on flikr. It's not my own photography. xD
So ch'yeah. The band is supposed to sound something like... All Time Low or The Cab mixed with Paramore. Something pop-punky and kind annoying. (No offense. It's just not really my favorite genre anymore. xD) Anyway... uh... enjoy.
