A Poem by skeletalmartyr

you are the lingering if something sweet
on my cheeks.
your presence here is the third layer of
a nesting doll.
there is an inkwell image of you
Engraved into the underside of my lungs.

~

And you are the scripture
stapled to my chest.
the "in, out" pattern of my breathing:
the melody that caresses the sides
of my ankles.
More gentle than chains,

but just as restricting.
