Chains

A Poem by Kathleen Burlas

I was never a child of valor
Kept in my frozen heart 
Are ordeals of my past
I'm chained from within
No courage to break free

Been chained to these fears
In the shadows I creep
No side to stand, no face to show
Chains of shame, hurt and pain
How can I sustain to live?

I'm caged and can't let go
On the noise of these chains
I long for freedom in my eyes
