I WOULD LIKE TO BUT

I WOULD LIKE TO BUT

A Poem by JENY
"

For devon's contest

"

I WOULD LIKE TO…

     BUT……

I am a village girl

Dreaming of mansions in town

Though my hovel is my heaven

I would like to see

The night turning into day

In the glaring lights of the city

Though I can never leave

The moonlit night of my village

I would like to see

The bar girls dancing

Though my feet’s rhythm is

The folklore my dad taught

I would like to be a friend

Of some town boy..

Who will teach me what is new…

But I will marry only

A village boy..

Who can tend my cattle

And talk with my parrot

Those mansions stood..

Oh..!! too close, to allow…

Any space for my cattle

To graze, romp and breath…

Above those glaring lights

I see a dark sky…

As if abode of dark murky secrets

I feel insecure..

The busy crowd…

Each draped in indifference

Seemed so far from each other…

Though appeared so close

And thickly packed…

I am afraid I will miss

What my soul needed..

The freshness of a green life

In my village…

Look lol…

There isn’t a single grain..

Of grass for my cattle!!!

I grew up a city boy then a country boy back to a city boy
and finally a suburbanite... Love the story and how it was
structured. Nice write Jeny...

Great slant for the image love!
A country person's view, unique and an angle that is really well written!
Awesome

This is a wondrous comparison and contrast of the bright boldness and the quiet gentleness of the country... Such differences draw people for different reasons, but love your line: "I am afraid i will miss what my soul needed.. " That speaks to us all!

Quite a refreshing approach to an image which tends to draw people into it and expose its deception from the inside rather than from without. It's an ironic human trait that makes one attracted to the things one knows nothing of: country people are drawn to the bright lights of the city, whereas city people are drawn to the apparently simple and peaceful life of the country. This poem shows the disillusionment inherent in both those dreams of a new life. Each has its positive aspects, but neither has anything like an ideal. This is indicative of the age-old proverb of 'the grass is always greener'.. but of course there is no grass in the city. The poem also shows the somewhat inevitable gravity of one's roots, as in: 'you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl'...

I really like the imagery and message of these lines.
A good piece, and insightful; with the comparison between the social and material differences of the urban and the rural making both seem somehow starkly ridiculous. Clearly the two can never really be inter-related.

Really charming piece. Loved it it shows how tempted is one to leave the pure nature and piece to run into nightlife and nightmare sin town :) Thanks for sharing it brought nice memories.

P.S. I am going to my village :P on my Villa right now so i can relate :P to that hehe :P

Nope, you wouldn't find that in any city (not enough, anyways).
Fresh air and green grass is where it's at.
Sweet poem. I enjoy it!
