The Wall

The Wall

A Poem by Wendy Sue

Wallflower, introvert
hiding in the limelight,
masterfully cloaked in
outgoing optimism.
I wander through the crowd,
eye contact, smiles,
conversations with ease.
Interested, interesting
authentic, heartfelt
and true.
This is the side that draws it in,
the side I like.
This is where I want to stay,
make deep connections
I hear others speak of.
Exchange of numbers, plans
of outings.
For the time, I am relieved,
excited, hopeful.
Then I retreat.

There was a glimmer of confidence a longing to want to break free of the mould the writer seems to be living in their current life before retreating back to where they are comfortable.

This resonated with me for a few different personal reasons.

Well done

Gee
Once we love ourselves, usually when we are older, life becomes a whole heap easier as it is draining to constantly worry as to how we are perceived by others and what changes we must make( to us) to fit in. A f#@k them attitude should be adopted by all at an early age :)

The walls need those flowers, otherwise they'd be bare.

You Are Welcome :)
I can easily relate to all you state. I believe some of us int rovers are like chameleons; we can adapt to many people and situations yet feel more comfortable by ourselves. I enjoy your perspectives through your poetry.

Amazing how we're all so unique but it's our similarities which make us kin.
Very nice writing. Like the others, I found it quite familiar, being like that myself. (socially challenged, introvert) I've always wanted to be at ease in a crowd, easily talking and making friends, but that chair in the corner usually pulls me to it.

I feel like this a lot, like when you've got plans and it gets to the day of said plan but you then don't want to do it.

It spoke to me in that way. Thank you.

"Then I retreat " I particularly like how this sounds, makes me remember those times I just want to live alone, enveloped by nature.
