pretense

pretense

A Poem by solitare

I'm meant to be happy
sheltered in this shell
so I smile sedately
and contemplate misunderstandings.
Raspberry curls and eyelashes wide
I nod and suppress tears
looking at rose coloured walls.
Numb and discreet
I seek happiness in fairydust tastebuds
almost bringing genuine glory
to the burrowed lostness
ungrounding my sphere.
My pleasure enraptures all
so sweets are adorned
then divinely I escape
to my ink, isolation and illusions.
I'm meant to be happy
sheltered in this skin
yet a tear singularly falls
and I'm plagued why
so I close my crystal-studded curtains
and pull up my silky sheets
closing my jaded eyes
I image stained dresses and smiles,
someone holding my hand tightly
and dancing with me through puddles
all the way home.
