Asia

A Poem by sophiephoenix
"

A poem I wrote during m backpacker travels in southeast Asia.

"
Thank you Thailand, for Tuk Tuks and noise, of Bangkok and mopeds and buff Ladyboys.
Crossing borders, kingdom to town
Where lands meet and sudden rain falls down.
Cambodia, the kingdom, the city of dawn, with ancient temples, gods, foundations torn.
Streets teeming with spice, guts, and woman rubbing feet, men sleeping on bikes, the stench of rotten meat.
Flying from Kingdom to city, land so tall. Miss Saigon welcomes all, LED lights and thunderstorm fall.
Cigarettes and shades, Zippos and hum, sold from human stalls.
Travellers from New Zealand, Europe, America, geckos on walls.
Techno music, whistling bongs, children clap and cheer,
Communist propaganda, painted on streets; pho, rice and beer.
Elephants on trousers, cheap cigarettes, bunk beds with bugs so near.
Night market, Dong, Riel and Baht.
Seafood, noodles and Bao, pulled around, exclaimed from a cart.
Smoothies made with every fruit, sun always beating down so hot.
Coaches from town to city, 18 hours, 2 storey plastic cot.
From every citizen, veteran, merchant, backpacker,
From mud hut in the jungle, to saigons tallest tower,
Thanks to you, Asia, all seen and done, you have changed my life,
to one big Happy Hour.
