The English language is a confusing mess. It leaves my mind perturbed

When trying to spell I am distressed, its phonics are absurd

Of the 26 letters in its alphabet 19 can be silent

When trying to pronounce or spell you can bet, I get very violent

The same letters can make different sounds, different letters can make the same

In the same word different meaning abounds, it's enough to drive me insane

Multiple ways to spell the same word, two acceptable conjugations of the past tense

Singular but no plural who ever heard? Plural but no singular makes no sense

I totally agree with you Soren. English has just many exceptions in grammar and vocabulary and it's not as complete and lawful as Arabic or French is.
P.S: Are you Persian? Cause your name is the name of the most famous Persian General in ancient era

Never a truer word was said.. The English language must be a nightmare to learn when it's not your first language, it is full of contradictions. It is confusing enough for the natives. I have to applaud those who master it from wherever they come. A punchy little poem, nicely rhymed. Thanks Soren for sharing.

Yes, I agree the english language is difficult to learn. Those born in English speaking countries where english is the first language has an easier time learning it with no difficulty. Others born where english is not the first language may have more difficulty learning it later on in life. It is mind boggling how one letter can have different sounds and words, different meanings. Like the letter G sounds different in words like garden versus gym.

Omg I so identify with this piece. I love writing but am not technical sound as a writer. I literally can take days if not weeks proof reading my submissions before posting them because of my fears in errors. And don't get me started on words with multiple meanings. I still struggle with simple words like bear and bare. Or then and than. This piece really made me laugh at my dumb insecurities as a writer. A delightful poem Soren.
