Free Throw & You

Free Throw & You

A Poem by Alexandra

You can write about someone endlessly
Imagine their presence in car rides heading into the city
Singing lyrics that meant the world to both you and them
It just won't matter at the end of the day
Time has passed
Bodies have replaced yours
Its an open grave
For you to peer in
And remind yourself:
You're the one all the way at the bottom
It was a moment of nostalgia

And even if it was for a few hours
He held you like it was December 2016 again
The year is 2019 and he left you, again
Be reminded that love only grows in sunlight
And his is shady
Unwilling to stretch its root towards you
You.
