I Love You My Friend

I never expected to love you so much,
I do not regret each and every touch
You are my closest best friend,
I never thought that this would be the way it would end
You going off to die somewhere so far away from me,
It took long enough to accept you're dying and now you're going to flee
My heart breaks every second knowing this is really happening to you,
An age so young and a man so loving is leaving this world and me....is it true??
It must be as you said you'd never go until you knew the time was near,
I might sound selfish, but I am living in a huge pool of fear
I feel my soul losing it's will and I feel my heart breaking,
There is not a pill nor drink strong enough to bother taking
I have to face up to this yet again that you are truly going,
Acceptance of you dying is easier then never seeing you again....I hate knowing
I have no choice but to concede to the facts of you heading out,
Too bad our last phone call wasn't happy because of my begging as I began to pout
I gather now I can look back on the talk we had in the end,
You've never believed me, you could never conceive me as I stated hundreds of times that I LOVE YOU MY FRIEND.

I remember when I broke up with my German girlfriend as a kid in Germany 30 years ago. I was dead and had no place but to hide my heart in drink. Poem is powerful and the emotion of a separation leave no winners. Last line line is very true. Even in disappointment we desire to love still. A excellent poem.
