400 Children

400 Children

A Story by A Soap Mess Stories
"

This is a story to the Kenny Rogers’ song “Lucille”. For years I heard the lyrics “Four hundred children…” only to finally discover that the lyrics actually read, “Four hungry children….”

"

You left me with four hundred children?

What am I going to do with that many children?  It was your idea to adopt…but I thought you would stop after two, three, or four…….  But you kept going, adopting 400 children.  How you got away with it, is beyond my comprehension?

Now you’ve left me high and dry with all these mouths to feed?

Was this your plan all along?

Ha! I laughed at this! Don't feel so bad--I've done just as bad or worse. Like... "A bird and it's feathers flop together", and "You're tryin' to make me the escape goat!" Last of all... the trucker whose wheel comes off in the middle of a curve, "You picked a fine time to leave me, loose wheel!"

I always thought she was right to leave before those 400 hundred children became 401! And he had to ask why she left. Jeez, it should have been obvious...

Yeah, every time I hear that song, I always hear 400.

When I was a kid I thought that too! Even after I knew the lyrics I still heard 400
