Forgotten Letters

A Poem by Shoshana

A letter from me to you, has arrived, at the set of dusk, underneath the dim orange street lamps that line the block with nats and tiny flying bugs hovering below the light. Moths fighting for its' territory.
The white flat envelope holds still in the weak grip of your wrinkled hand, rough around the edges.
You scrape open the lap, tearing at the tough paper, pleading silently for it not to be who you think it is.
Then, you stare blankly at the few tarnished words on the scratchy paper, tears pooling down your eyes, falling gently down your cheeks.
You read: you knew what he was doing, so why didn't you do something?

"you stare blankly at the few tarnished words on the scratchy paper" -- love this!

A powerful broken-heart letter. Nicely played!

Cheers,
