i waited patiently, seeing is she was right.

staring into the gold rimmed pupil of the one i loved, as he stared back and showed

no sparkle whatsoever.

Indeed, it does hurt. On the other hand, better to find out early than to get dumped suddenly a year down the road. Consider dropping the comma after glint in line 1 and substituting if for is in line 2.
