Sunlight and Shadow

Sunlight and Shadow

A Poem by Stephanie
"

For Mia.

"

You are Shakespeare, my dear

A writer and scholar

A word connoisseur

A bosom so boastful

A mind so impure

To be plain, you’re Mark Twain

An instant classic, for sure

With your roots down South

And a proclivity for comedy

From that eloquent mouth

Your epitaph will read Sylvia Plath

The light in the room

But not the head in the oven

Obsessed with mermaids

Yet part of no coven

You are Poe, don’t you know?

Flip the switch, now you’re dark

Poison laces your words

You may be slightly mad

But that is often preferred
