Hiding

Hiding

A Poem by Steph Cruz

Tiptoeing like on broken glass

Wearing masks, barely smiling

Hands behind your back

Dry eyes staring out

People pose like porcelain

Paint covers all the cracks.

Unsteady breaths coming quick

Eyelids flutter, lips quiver

Holding it all within

Shaky smiles thrown about

Penny for your thoughts

But no one wants to know

Living in your perfect world

Of innocence, you’re so naive

You don’t see it

The way they stare

You’re something they don’t know

And it scares them half to death

I really enjoyed this poem. I reread it twice. My favorite line is the following:

"You're something they don't know
And it scares them half to death"

This was a powerful poem, and open to all kinds of interpretation. An outstanding piece. Enjoyed.
