People and Protocol

People and Protocol

A Poem by StormeLight

So many people hurting

Crying and screaming on the floor

Trudging through total disaster

How did we end up in this war?

Do we love our protocol

More than the people next door?

What cost will we keep paying

As we watch everyone in pain

A little voice inside says,

It’s okay, its not me

Well its not you yet

But soon it will be

If you will only fight for yourself

What will happen if that’s all you have?

Banging down your door

Dragging you across the floor

Who will fight for you then?

When it was you who didn’t take a stand

Saying,

“It’s not me,”

“It’s not me,”

“I don’t have to worry.”

Now you have little choice

As the new leaders bring you to your knees

Numb to your pleadings,

Because you said,

“It’s okay,”

“It’s not me.”
