Baby Teeth

Baby Teeth

A Poem by Shauna

shining little moonstones

cleaned and kept in even rows

lined up like a string of pearls

winter white as lips unfurl

molars tugged so eagerly

impatient to begin to bleed

clawing at your milky gems

until red's dripping down your chin

the ivory was such a bore

compared to grins of pinkish gore

to your new sticky crimson space

and coins beneath the pillowcase

one by one they'll all come loose

resign themselves to waning youth

leave handfuls at your bedside

of your pretty little insides
