At 3,000 feet

At 3,000 feet

A Poem by Kaitlyn Stone

when the cold breath raises

                         the temperature of color

              you can hear

                          the crunch of gold

                                      leaves under your shoes

              piles of things

                          not yet gone

cup your hands

             around your eyes

                         and peer through

a look into the glass globe

                         before the snow arrives

                                    to snuff the mountain flames

if only you could shake it up

             and watch the fall leaf

                         by leaf    moment

                                     by moment

or, hibernate inside

           a world of autumn

                       for the winter

           you could savor the warmth

                     of amber     burnt

                               sienna       scarlet

                                             gather them into your arms

            to keep the fire

                      from being buried

                                 beneath the ice

This should win the autumn description, sienna and scarlet, like two wedding bands, they just cup each other into a warm hug, Wow great!

The poem pleases my eyes as it moves spirally up and down.
The following stanza appears so lovely:

"or, hibernate inside

a world of autumn

for the winter"

Thank you!
Youve taken something that, in prose, would only being a sentence or two, and turned it into an entire poem, i applaud you, not only because of that but also because it was good! I love the flow visually and literally. I used to live in st. petersburg, have you been to the dali museum there? its quite wonderful, and also there is this bar, i cant recall the name, but kerouac had his last drink there, a really unique place.
