Werewolf

Werewolf

A Poem by Susanna F
"

There's a bit of wolf in all of us...

"

Once again the time has come

The moon is nearly full

I feel my heart's blood quickening

A strange, unconscious pull.

Dare I try to fight the beast

To chain myself until

My mind no longer burns with need

A dark, unholy thrill?

Shall I deny all that I know

Traverse such dangerous land

As all I thought I knew and loved

Slips from me like the sand?

Could I journey all alone

No confidante, no pack

Just for a day bury my heart

Ignore the hope I lack?

When all around the night is cold

The beast emerges yet

To ravage dreams, put out the light

She is the werewolf's get.

She is not me, this creature dark

Whose human self is dead

The heart is full of untold things

Some better left unsaid.

I think the detail constructing the flow did the entirety justice in ways that bring the words to life,
its passionate and self telling, straight from the werewolf's own thoughts, actions and emotions,
from the black pages of the heart, burning under a full moon. You have talent, thanks for sharing.
