Empty

Empty

A Poem by Suzuki Writes

crawling on all fours, knees skinned and open wounds bled
whilst the heart searched for something more
and the hands groped the darkness that filled
for that was all that
filled
the tunnel to life through death that
stole chunks of the soul in each breath
crippling, weakening the body
the life force growing faint
and dead
in the inability to bear further strain
out rises the naked soul
emanating vulnerability
drawing a being to the spirit like
a moth to a light of life
it located the latitude and longitude of the presence in
limbo and the gates in the path to purgatory
opened, the being it’s eyes
in place of the soul they were
the windows to nothingness
a thick void of emptiness
but that was not the force desired
for what the heart sought was
love
in a plane where love had been extinct eons ago
from the simpleminded ignorance of
the “rules” of survival where
‘thou shalt not’ this and ‘thou shalt not’ that
so the question remains to what shalt thou?
the soul’s predecessors’ failure to challenge
the repressive nature of their surroundings
drained their energies and
the tunnel grew in power; their light to darkness, cursed
every soul in oppression
to never find peace
for love had died in the hearts of many
leaving nothing but an appropriate spacious void of empty
for the empty.
