Look At You

Confidence is not easy to come by.

Look into the mirror,

Observe.

What do you see?

A face, a body, a broken heart?

A blazing heart? To be set free?

Look past the flaws, the marks, the scars,

Look deep into your eyes.

Focus on feelings inside your heart,

Feel the passion deep inside.

The broken pieces

Carelessly shattered,

Conquered my aching soul,

And when the spirits voice rang out,

My heart turned cold as coal.

My source of anger, fear, and dread

Came too soon to be,

Creeping closer, day by day

Finding it’s way to me.

Staring at my reflection

In the sharp depressing glass,

Formed a pit inside my stomach,

One I knew from the past.

This was not the first time

These thoughts had appeared

I have been fighting this whole problem

For far too many years

Take off the mask you hide behind,

Reveal your honest self,

True, your eyes are smart and kind

Break out of your hard shell

Stare back into the mirror,

Take that look out of your eye;

Fill yourself with confidence

And keep that level high

Do not frown when you walk past yourself;

It is only fair to say,

You, my dear, are beautiful

Don’t let another person tell you any other way.
