the moon

the moon

A Poem by Devin

i met the moon today
and she said
my goodness
look at all of that space
in you
the hollow blackness that constantly calls but never makes a sound
i see it reflected off of you
the way the sun reflects off of me
but there’s your catch
maybe it’s a good thing
a nice thing
maybe not as nice as hearing someone else laugh with you
instead of you by yourself
all the time
but you can teach your hollowness to fill up
the way water fills ruts and cracks
the way the air fills lungs
i’m here to tell you
that you can stay empty and keep yourself full.
you don’t need a sun
the way i do
to be seen.
you are your own sun
you’re the rays
the heat
the white
the light
bring calefaction to your eyes
raise them to appear as incalesent orbs
seeing up to the sky
the more you look up at the sky
the faster you will fall in love
and you’ll realize
that if you spend enough time looking
you can see the moon
even when the sun is nowhere to be seen.
