The Psychology of Cute

The Psychology of Cute

A Poem by Rachelle
"

It works both ways...

"
Big puppy-dog eyes beseeching
Docile temperament so pleasing
A little fat to round it off
Try not to look at all that tough.

Suppress your own little genuine thoughts
Succumb to ideas by others wrought.
High-pitched sycophantic tone concurring
Blind obedience, independence blurring.

Please them to their hearts' content
Question not where your soul went.

The title is misleading, its not about psychology and its not cute, its about repression. Also, your couplet end rhyme scheme is forced. Focus on the core of your message, not the window dressing.

Not sure I'm following this message, but being a dog-lover, I have to take that path. This reminds me of the way so-called "unconditional love" actually brings MANY CONDITIONS! We are slaves to the desires of our furry friends! Your poem seems to accept this with humor & good will!

Ouch. You really make your point, and it's so sad that it was even necessary. I guess in certain situations, many of us feel we have to suppress our real selves.

Rachelle, Questioning the location of one's soul while held in sway by the terminal cuteness of a pet is a challenge for most pet owners. It's more than cuteness that endears them to us, so deeply imbedded in our lives that we can't imagine that some day they will be gone...long before we are. THAT is when we realize exactly where our souls went. Fantastic piece! take care...dan

I have a dog and he is an amazing animal who gives me much more than I give him; I believe he knows this! I loved this write. Thanks for sharing! - FT

The love they give back is unconditional...No strings attached....
I'm hypnotized! My cat does that to me all the time. The thing about cats, though, is they're not obedient at all! They'll do what they want, when they want it, and they'll only come to you when they're hungry. Being cute is a psychology all on its own. Great job Rachelle. You're very insightful!

Welcome dear friend.........
This is very deep and insightful
I changed my picture here from the handsome gentleman in a tuxedo
To this wierd photo of a man opening up his mind to help him understand
And for others to see inside that there is more to a person than just looks.

Sometimes it is hard being a beautiful person on the inside only
But only those of us that are....... understand that.

(This is all tongue in cheek humor)
Your poem on the other hand is brilliant.

And we fall into this trap even is we don't like it.
Oh I know many who get what they want because of their looks, taking advantage of that makes them ugly inside.
