Addiction by Any Other Name

A Poem by Sweet Emotions
"

A small poem about drug addiction and the destruction is causes.

"

You got your first kiss at only 14

and you thought it would be grand

to live a life uncontrolled.

So you packed up and went out

cause you thought he loved you,

Every fix drawing you back for more.

You thought you could touch the clouds

When you leaned out the window

you weren’t looking down.

He was in the driver’s seat

his needle in your arm

and you thought you were living

with poison on your mind.

There was only one goal:

keep on getting more.

What else is there to live for?

What is life without the thrill?

Why are you even out here?

Dressed like a hooker with a child’s face

don’t you know you’re out of place?

You dreamed of being a princess

but that’s in the past

cause you can’t be a princess

when you’re hooked on his kiss.

I enjoyed the metaphor, it worked very well which can be hard with the subject because it's such a transparent one. You also describe the confusion and self doubt very well along with the pride in such a way that it doesn't condemn or glorify.

Wonderful, and very clever write, I very much enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing.

I enjoyed the fun word play you used. Although I thought the delivery could have been stronger I liked this mellow take in detailing the life of an addict rather than overemphasizing their struggles. So I thought it was a refreshing break from the usual. Good job(:
