A Chapter by Norma M Sutton

Team Renfield

Cacao, Olmec treat
Drink of the Mayan elite
Stolen Aztec xocalatl
Columbus usurped
Cortez and Emperor Montezuma used
Dominican friars were gifted jars prepared
Spread to Europe
Where sugar and flavor added zing
Now medicine and a aphrodisiac
Then The Coffee Mill and Tobacco Roll come
Rolls and cakes abound
Prices drop peasants taste
Renamed Theobroma by Linnaeus
Hanan introduced to the United States
And BAKER'S rejoiced
