Dancing High

Dancing High

A Poem by Norma M Sutton

On winds they danced soaring high
Calling across the fields
Three dancing hawks
Wings outstretched they circled

Ever rising on warm currents
Searching ever searching
In distant fields below
For the slightest movement

Betrayal
For some poor unlucky soul
I watched them in abandonment
From my vantage point

Feeling my thoughts soar
With each turn they made
Until only a speck they became
In the suns weak gleam

Author's Note

Norma M Sutton
There is a pair of hawks that live near me. The last two falls I've been privileged to watch them teach their hatching how to hunt. One of them, I always think it's the female, but I could be wrong. Always leads out and calls in an attempt to flush out some small animal.

What a great description and what a wonderful event. Tis marvellous to watch raptors soaring and hovering in the sky. Makes one want to get up there too .. to fly, to feel the air and freedom. And yes, there is that moment when a small movement's noticed and down and down the great bird goes and then .. we know what's happened, that's how it is.

Your love of moments with nature is delightful to read, simply put, deeply felt.
