To Love and To Loose

To Love and To Loose

A Poem by Sydney
"

this is a poem i wrote about my horse. it didnt really happen, i thought of it while we were on a trail. its a thought about a tragic ending to a great friend and what kind of impact it could have on someone.

"

today, i lost my best friend.
i thought we would be together to the end.
i wish i had told her how i felt.
what our friendship meant to me day in and day out.
it was a wet day that day.
we went out after the rain had delayed.
we were having fun and acting free.
until we decided to jump a tree (a fallen tree btw.)
we flew over it with a giant leap.
she didnt even make a peep.
when it happened,
it was like a dream.
one that i have had many times after
that always made me scream.
when we landed, something was wrong.
i looked below
her legs were gone. (meaning she fell.)
we hit the ground with a thud.
we were greeted by rocks and mud.
i then heard a crack and felt something warm.
blood trickeled down my cheek
and a small pool formed.
while darkness was closing around me
i looked to my left.
my friend was there taking her last breath.
i said her name
with no response.
and watched her die right on the spot.
she had broken her leg and her neck.
had a broken hip and was all wet.
the rain poored down and before i closed my eyes,
i looked to my friend and said my goodbyes.
when i awoke,
there was nurse
she smiled and say
'hello little girl'
i asked what had happened
she said it was tragic.
i remembered the scene
and began to panic.
my friend was dead
and i was alive.
my only friend gone- why did i survive?
i wanted to be with her
up in the sky.
i asked god the reason,
but he didnt say why.
i miss her a lot
not a day goes by
that i dont think of her,
and i dont cry.
nothings the same
its all not right.
i am still haunted by the events of that night.

This is a very sad poem. It pulled the reader in and made them feel what the character was feeling. I also liked the rhyme scheme, it's not easy to have that many lines rhyme and still tell the story so well. Excellent write!
