Remember...?

A poem I wrote for a boy who's been my best friend for 10 years now. He's like my brother & I loves him :)

Remember when we were little kids, goin' down a slide,

Never knowing our young lives were slowly flying by?

You and me, little boy, little girl,

Friends forever, always, bestest in the world.

 

Remember as years went on, we hated each other so?

'Cause you were a boy, I was a girl, that's how these things go.

But I still missed you, my best friend,

So I hoped our friendship would mend.

 

Remember going back to being "us"?
Sitting together on the field trip bus?
You were Prez, I was vice.

Best friends again? We didn't think twice.

 

Remember that last day of school?

All I could say was "I'll miss you."
Hugged you tight, tried not to cry,

As your promised "This isn't good-bye."

 

Years from now, grown up and old,

We'll laugh and say "Where'd time go?
Remember when we were just little kids?

Remember when we had forever to live?"

Author's Note

In the 3rd stanza, "prez" and "vice" refers to us being president and vice president in one of our 8th grade classes.
