Milkbar madness

Milkbar madness

A Poem by terry smith

She searched
for what seamed like 45 minutes
for the spoon that hung around her neck
it was her albatross
her great white whale
the frog she dared to kiss
that became a prince
but for a moment
to lead her on his white steed
as far as the rabbit hole
she now looked at on her arm

heroin was her zookeeper
& the monkey on her back
hung tapestries of s**t
to be all that she could see
It hung from her neck
like an umbilical noose
make of babies breath
& squeezed
at her mind
like a hangman's lullaby
& she just wanted to hear
that song one last time
