It Only Sees

It Only Sees

A Poem by Taylor Speer

Have you ever heard a doe speak?

Let out a squeal? Or even a squeak?

When caught in the headlights

does she let out a startled scream?

You think their lives flash before their eyes?

When their giant bulbs are blinded by the lights,

You think they see fields and forests they lived

or relive the desperate nights, struggling for life?

With eyes bigger than jupiter's moons,

and sights set wider than mine

but without words to clarify.

How can they not die to ask why?

What would it be like

To see everything as so much more?

Could you keep it all in? Hidden, disguised?

Content to watch the worlds demise.

If we saw the world like a doe,

No way to write, slightly color blind

could we define the differences

between black and white?

Would it be as beautiful as it is now?

Or would it be so terrifying, you’d stand up in quiet fear

and wait for the roaring SUV to near?

I was told and read. People who never had vision, proper hearing and weaknesses in body. Do not miss them. They want to know sight, sound and strength in body. They had learn to survive without. The doe may have weaknesses. It have advantages also. Freedom of a sort. Us with the gifts of five senses. Do we use them? I enjoyed the poem. You open the door to a long conversation. Best kind of poetry. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
