“I’m not going to wear a mask,”

The man says with a look of defiance,

As he stands in the midst of a crowd,

Defying common sense and science.

 

"I don't like the government,"

The man without a mask proceeds.

It only comes in handy for him

When it happens to suit his needs.

 

"The government is not," he adds,

"Going to tell me what to do."

Only his unreliable

Sources tell him what is true.

 

"The CDC can't be trusted,"

He says with a look of disdain,

Letting too many conspiracy theories

Seep into his paranoid brain.

 

"No business or place of work

Can make me wear a mask," he declares.

When it comes to the safety of all,

His words show how little he cares.

 

"Freedom is what it's all about,"

He shouts, but he just doesn't see

That it has nothing to do with freedom;

It’s merely utter stupidity.

So many idiots among us, it's hard to believe. My theory is that they have a cult mentality, brought on by fox "news" and the like. Maybe if enough of them get sick and die, they'll decide to listen to doctors and scientists instead of crackpots. (And that includes anything Tweety McLiarpants says) Problem is, they'll take multitudes of innocents along with them.

I understand the desire to try to “open up” again, but there are smart ways to do it. And it is true that this is a new virus and we don’t know what to expect, but a little common sense and responsibility should be expected. Let’s listen to the true experts.

Firmly agree. I saw a guy on the news who is chairman of his county commission opening his restaurant to dining in with no restrictions at all. He was cited a thousand dollar fine by the sheriff but the last I heard the place was still open and packed with diners. It amazes me how people are so eager to fight for the right to infect others.

Thoughtlessness? Selfishness? Stupidity? Lack of common sense? Lack of compassion? An it’s-all-about-me attitude? Recklessness? Or maybe all of the above!

Never ceases to amaze me the idiots there are around. Like those on packed beaches yesterday where there was hardly any social distancing. Like the queues to get a beer because the pub was selling bottled outside. Or the idiots that try and lean over me while I do my shopping. And then there's the anti government lot who would rather flout all the rules than do anything a tory suggests. The freedom bit just makes me laugh. It's this lot that will make the numbers spike. Well written and well observed. Happy to spend time in my garden and shop once a week at the moment and listen to the advice given.

It isn’t just an American thing then. I am glad that we don’t have a monopoly on idiocy.
By the way, I had forgotten that you live in Great Britain. We had an unforgettable trip over there a year ago. I don’t know if I told you last year. We loved everything—London, Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge, Wales, Chester, York, Whitby, the Lake District, and Edinburgh. I would love to go back.

Didn't realise you were in the USA. You certainly don't hold the monopoly. We have our own brand of idiot. You certainly visited some great places on your trip here. I have visited all the places you mentioned and was born in London, though now live forty miles west of it. Happy to be nearer the country. We are fond of Oxford. We enjoy the university atmosphere, all the colleges, young people, museums and the new shopping precinct. Some great places to eat. Hope it's not too long before I go back. Maybe you will get another opportunity to visit. So much history in London and Oxford.
