Emotional Journies

Emotional Journies

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

We are all born sensitive,
Crying and laughing with different occurrences in matters of seconds,
We grow to be stronger each year,
Desensitizing as adulthood draws near.

We know more, have seen more,
But we care less and less,
It's all for the best.
Our reactions are less rash,
But, there's always a chance for a crash.

Our experiences break us
and heal us over and over,
That's our emotional journey,
A repetition of breaking and healing,
Doing what we must
to push on.
So we can stay strong.

But, what about the journies with less healing
And more breaking?
What's their meaning?
What's the goal?
They'll have more emotional control.
Care less and push more.
Or push less and face death.

And what about those whose journies are the opposite?
More pleasant experiences,
Less destruction?
They'll be happier,
Their attachments deeper,
But the journey is less prominent.

I suppose one could say,
The darker the journey,
The stronger you'll be.
Because, darker days allow you to see,
Whether you have any true friends in humanity.
That's what my emotional journey has taught me.

This one is based on a prompt I dug up on Instagram called: Emotional Journey. I wanted to make this one more personal to me but, it still ended up separated so, I guess that's a good thing.

Friends...very few, if any, in life. I have none and seek none. If you seek friends, be wary.
