Red

Red

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Red is the color we assign to Love.
But, it's also assigned to anger,
Heat and blood...
Why?

Love is supposed to hold a lot of power,
But so does anger.
Both involve heat,
And blood.
And yet both emotions are like flowers.

They bloom when in the right light,
With the right care,
And when plucked,
You'll either come to bleed...or smile
for a little while.

We all know that anger brings heat,
Fights can ensue,
And blood is shed,
All that red, red, red.

Anger is part of Love,
Love is war.
Because you're often unsure
When your emotions soar.
All you want to do is listen to your core,
And there are times when anger runs through,
Red, red, red, red.

All of these can hold different shades of red,
How deep is the emotion?
How will things end...?
What will this make?
How much heat can this take?

Affairs of the heart are coated red because blood is our life force,
Love reinforces our lives,
Anger is our lifeline,
Bringing fire to our eyes,
As we see that even fire brings life,
Beneath the destructive guise.

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
This piece is based on the poetry prompt topic: The color of Love - Red. I more focused on the main meanings of the color red that I could recall off the top of my head. Red is usually associated with blood, anger, love, Fire, pain, etc. So, I kind of tried to tie them all together and give a message.

Nice perspective! Red is a symbol of the opposites in some cases as you stated, drama, passion and more, all infuse the red color and make it alive. I really like the poem, especially love how you gave red life and more meaning than just a color.
