EXTINCTION

EXTINCTION

A Poem by KCthelastboyscout
"

we will not surrender

"
They came without warning
Strange Invaders far from home
We welcomed them in peace
A request was made for replenishments for their dying world
We provided what they needed
They insisted taking more
We objected...
They attacked

And so war began between our world and the visitors
Day and night turning into weeks, now becoming months
A violent campaign begins to escalate and both sides endure critical losses
Although we are many and they are few, they are resilient and more so, desperate

As the war begins to dissipate, our victories multiply
The visitors are overmatched and depleted
We are all united and victory is at hand
WE WILL NOT BE CONQUERED
WE WILL NOT BE VANQUISHED
A message of defiance will echo around our planet...
DEATH TO THE HUMAN INVADERS
GO BACK TO EARTH

The last two lines arrive with a drum strike, KC! I don’t think most readers expected that ended. Clever way to flip the perspective and force us to consider how we’re seen. Brilliant work.

wow this time about science fiction i really like the ending though any sort of invasion is definitely unwelcome

KC - you had me going there, until the very end. Go back to Earth, indeed. Is this a metaphor for the European "invasion" of America?

Take care - Dave

This , at first, reminded me of a show, I believe was on the Twilght Zone many years ago. Aliens co.. read more
I love this so much :D and that plot twist at the end is simply breathing taking. Such a good piece of writing

Everyone else has said it, and that twist makes the whole poem. It seems like a typical story until then, and then everything is spun on its head. the message is very timely with all the political talk and tension across all the world.

Ah, a classic twist on a seemingly overdone story. Sadly, this story is all too likely to occur, should we ever find intelligent life in the stars. We're a greedy people, and we've doomed other species for our own gain before. Why would we not do the same to extraterrestrials? I like it.

that's cool, I like the twist, I'm reading a book right now with aliens, there's so much you can do with space.

i like the twist this takes...I was expecting the opposite all the way through...

but yes, when we think of it...we have made enough of a mess here...what makes us think we would be welcomed elsewhere?
