AFTERGLOW

AFTERGLOW

A Story by KCthelastboyscout
"

Part fact part fiction;.a walking contradiction

"
WHAT YOU LEFT BEHIND
* strands of your hair on the pillowcase
* that awful coffee you left in the pantry
* your shampoo you left in the shower rack
* your favorite pink socks you left under the bed
* there are still pictures of us you left in the closet I wish you would have taken
* I found the unfinished note I guess you meant for me to read next to the wastebasket. I only read the words "i love you" and " don't hate me" and threw it in the trash where it belong

THE CALM AFTER THE STORM 3 months later
* she's a lot like you
* she has a smile that lights up the room
* she makes me laugh at the silliest things
* when she holds me in her arms all my burdens just wither away
* she is perfect but just not perfect for me because she is not you

ACCEPTANCE & HEALING
* the memory of your face is fading faster than expected
* I have forgotten your phone number and I don't answer the phone as quickly expecting your call because I know it won't come
*the romantic in me is not dead but dying slowly within my damaged soul ; what nonsense to believe a cool wind on a hot day was of you thinking of me at that moment
* once the mention of your name there was only hatred but now there is regret and understanding

EPILOGUE
* from across the room a new face a new smile small talk and eye contact forms a new hurricane that spins me around and around once again

your epilogue to this plain-spoken ache is without a doubt why I write. a new face, a new day, a fresh start, the forming of a hurricane to spin me round and round to someplace I've never been

Oh, wow. This is powerful and achingly poignant. So much of it is told without being said, a lifetime of emotions. I felt a hole in my own heart, reading this.

It's been a while, KC. I hope you've been well.

A lovely write, heartbreak that with time yields to a new beginning.
