Code Name

A Poem by Kaden Sylvers

I thought I already posted this poem, but I guess I didn't. This is an important one.

Code Name

She’s the keeper of your secrets

And she’s standing far away

Sometimes you hate her

But that’s only natural

And sometimes when it’s spontaneous

You’re the only one she wants

And she makes a code name

Because it isn’t right

But no one can choose who they fall in love with.

She’s the keeper of your secrets

The one you can still laugh with even when you feel alone

The one who’s seen the darkest side of you

But loves you anyways.

And when she sings that love song

It isn’t about that other boy

She doesn’t even know.

She’s the keeper of your secrets

She thinks way outside the box

Marches to the beat of a different drummer

Sometimes she wonders if you can see her

For all she is inside.

And it didn’t used to be this way

But now when she looks at you

That feeling

That feeling she should associate with anyone but you,

It comes.

Yeah, and she bangs her head into the wall

But she can’t close her eyes bow

No matter how much she yearns to

Because it isn’t right

But no one can choose who they fall in love with.

Now you’re the keeper of her secrets

You know all her weaknesses,

Her flaws, her passions….

Next time you check her vital signs

Will she still be alive?

You’re the keeper of her secrets

You know her secret

Now when you look at her

Does that scary feeling creep up your spine

As you shiver in your bed, your radio blasting,

Because next door she’s playing her CD softly

And the song playing is about you?

Do you feel it too,

Even though we shouldn’t…..?......

But no one can chose who they fall in love with…

Not even her.

Hmm. I'm trying to understand the perspective of this piece. I'm having some difficulties. I feel these words could apply to an array of situations. Mostly romantic conundrums and inopportune relationships. However, a part or two made me think of my mother.. others made me think about myself as the keeper for someone else. I like the twist at the end but am not entirely sure what to make of it.

Nice write though. Very much enjoyed and will read it more to try and understand.
