Silent War

Do not wrap me in chains

Love is not a deed of ownership

It is meant to be a true and honest calling

How can I love you of my own free will

When you control everything I say and do

I would choose to feel nothing if you would only let me

I am thankful that the wounds you inflict absorb my tears

For every escaped tear lifts you higher above me
Reducing me to nothing but your shadow

I am no longer sure which I fear the most

My absolute failure, my self or you

Though there is equal pain in every defeat

Because I believe you, I accept the pain

Because I believe you, I wrap myself in your chains

Your such brief remorse is my sanctuary

You are as frightened of losing me as I am of losing myself

In this way you show your affection

The strength of these chains tightened by the power of your love

Each strike you land is a letter of love

Each attack is a paragraph

Spelt in finality as my blood fills the floor

mark...this is absolutely wonderful! I don't know how it is that you are so able to capture and manipulate human emotion in this way, but by the end of this, I had tears in my eyes. One line in particular really stands out to me "You are as frightened of losing me as I am of losing myself"...the power in that sentence alone...I dunno. I cant describe it, but well done :D

In this I saw verbal abuse. Just as damaging as physical and depending on how long it goes on/went on.. Wounds that may never fully heal. We can believe after years removed from the situation all is well again and those chains have long since been discarded. A chance encounter, a few well placed barbs and we find ourselves right back in that place mentally.
Perhaps this is not what you intended with these words, but it is where my mind took me.. A story it was familiar with in it's own way.
