Ch. 6 Jordan

Ch. 6 Jordan

A Chapter by theladygraceling

Jordan
is next to his father.
I see him next.
I haven't seen him since he went to college
but I remember him
and he remembers me.

Jordan,
who used to drive us to the movies
and buy us ice cream,
looks so sad.

Jordan
waves weakly.
It's nice to see
a friendly face,
but he looks too much like her
for me to feel comfortable.

Jordan
smiles
a nice, familiar smile.
But he looks different.
His hair is longer.
He looks bigger.
He's tanner.
And he has intentional stubble.

Jordan
doesn't hug me
like everyone else.
He holds out his hand
and shakes mine
because he knows how I am about hugging.

Jordan
says, "Nice to see you."
But his voice cracks
and I see his eyes are red and bruised too.

At any other time I might have laughed.
It was kind of funny
in a terrible sort of way.
I have never seen a quarterback cry before.
